Who We Are, Where We’re From, and Why We Do This
Oannes began with two people from very different places who share one thing: a deep love for the outdoors and a belief that things can be made better.
Nick Carullo is a sportfishing captain from the waters of South Florida. His days are shaped by sun, salt, unpredictable weather, and the need for gear that actually performs. But beyond the long hours on the water, Nick is a devoted husband and dad. He understands firsthand how important dependable apparel is when your life is a mix of hard work, family time, and real moments outdoors.
Denee Garman is a mom and gardener from rural Maryland, as well as a DIY’er and quilter in the little free time she has. Her world is built around hard work, creativity, and the comfort needed to do both.
We met while working for another apparel company, and over time, we saw a side of the industry that didn’t sit right with either of us. COVID exposed just how fragile overseas manufacturing could be. We watched factories shut down, shipments disappear, port congestion drag on for months, and entire orders arrive so poorly made that they were literally unsellable. We saw waste and items made with no pride. We saw a lack of accountability. We experienced how little of the process brands truly control.
We believed it could be done differently. Better.
And it could be done here at home.
The idea for Oannes grew out of the frustration of watching good intentions collide with broken systems. We wanted apparel that was well-made, responsibly produced, and rooted in American craftsmanship. At first, we assumed finding USA manufacturers would be simple. We quickly learned it wasn’t. Many companies advertised “Made in the USA” yet outsourced critical steps. Others couldn’t meet quality standards. Some didn’t actually manufacture at all.
So we pivoted. We adapted.
And we partnered with people we trust.
From Maryland to North Carolina to Florida, we’ve built relationships with American craftsmen and manufacturers who take pride in their work. Together, we’ve designed and produced a lifestyle brand that reflects the environments we come from—sun, salt, soil, sweat, and everyday life. Our gear uses top-tier fabrics, thoughtful construction, and finishing work done right here in the States. We believe in durability, quality, and accountability. We believe in doing work that stands behind its name.
Most of all, we believe in building something that lasts.
Oannes exists because we saw the ugly side of the industry and it didn’t have to be that way. We’re small, we’re growing, and we’re determined to do this with integrity. If you’ve supported us so far, thank you. If you’re just discovering us, welcome.
We have big plans. Plenty of ideas. And a commitment to American craftsmanship that will guide us as we grow.
Embrace the Elements.
